What Skills Are Important for This Role?

Estimating a specialized ambulance involves more than calculating the price of a vehicle.

An ambulance conversion may include mechanical modifications, electrical installations, medical equipment, oxygen systems, communication devices, specialized interiors and patient-handling equipment.

For this reason, candidates should be comfortable working with information from several engineering disciplines.

Strong attention to detail is particularly important because missing a component, installation requirement or subcontracted activity during estimation can affect the final project cost.

Candidates should also be able to communicate effectively with engineering, procurement, production, sales and supplier teams.

Qualifications

Applicants should preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following disciplines:

• Mechanical Engineering
• Automotive Engineering
• Electrical Engineering
• Manufacturing Engineering
• Another relevant engineering or technical discipline

Relevant professional experience in one or more of the following areas would be beneficial:

• Cost estimation
• Automotive engineering
• Vehicle conversion
• Specialist vehicle manufacturing
• Emergency or ambulance vehicle projects
• Manufacturing engineering
• Project engineering
• Medical equipment integration
• Commercial or technical estimation

Previous exposure to ambulance manufacturing, medical vehicle interiors or emergency vehicle conversions may provide an additional advantage.

Technical Knowledge

Candidates should be capable of reading and understanding:

• Engineering drawings
• Technical specifications
• Bills of Materials
• Wiring diagrams
• Customer specifications
• Tender documentation
• Equipment schedules
• Scope-of-work documents

Knowledge of vehicle body modifications, electrical installations, mechanical systems, and specialist equipment integration can also be valuable for this position.

Who Should Consider Applying?

This opportunity may be relevant to professionals currently working as an Estimation Engineer, Automotive Estimation Engineer, Cost Engineer, Mechanical Estimator, Vehicle Conversion Engineer, Project Engineer or in another related engineering position.

Candidates with a combination of engineering knowledge and commercial awareness may be particularly well-suited, as the position requires both technical understanding and accurate cost estimation.

Why This Role Is Important

Accurate estimation is an important part of specialist vehicle manufacturing.

Before an ambulance or emergency vehicle enters production, the project team needs to understand the expected cost of materials, equipment, labour, fabrication, installation and external services.

The Estimation Engineer helps connect the customer’s technical requirements with the commercial side of the project.

A well-prepared estimate can help the organization submit competitive quotations while ensuring that important technical requirements and project costs have been properly considered.

Career Opportunity in Dubai

For engineers interested in the automotive and specialist vehicle industry, this position provides exposure to a combination of engineering, manufacturing, procurement, costing and project coordination .

Experience gained in ambulance and emergency vehicle estimation may also be relevant to other areas of specialist vehicle manufacturing, including mobile clinics, rescue vehicles and customized commercial vehicles.
