Commercial Real Estate Senior Associate – Top National Law Firm – New York, NY

A national law firm is seeking a Senior Associate to join its Real Estate Department in New York City. This role offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated commercial real estate transactions with a focus on retail industry matters, including big box retail leasing and acquisitions, alongside a highly regarded and collaborative team.

Compensation & Benefits: $270,000 – $290,000 , depending on experience, qualifications, education, licensure, and other relevant factors. A comprehensive benefits package is offered.

About the Role

The ideal candidate will have 6–8 years of commercial real estate experience , with substantial exposure to retail industry transactions. This position offers significant responsibility in handling complex real estate matters, including leasing, acquisitions, due diligence, title review, and negotiations involving both landlord and tenant representations.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
• Active admission to practice in the State of New York
• 6–8 years of relevant commercial real estate experience
• Retail industry experience, including big box retail matters, strongly preferred

Experience & Skills

• Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
• Excellent academic credentials
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail
• Experience preparing and negotiating contracts, leases, and purchase and sale agreements
• Experience conducting due diligence for real estate-related mergers and acquisitions
• Experience reviewing and analyzing commercial and complex title reports and title policies
• Strong organizational and client management skills

Key Responsibilities

• Negotiate and draft commercial retail and office lease agreements
• Represent both landlords and tenants in commercial real estate transactions
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate successful transaction outcomes
• Advise clients on regulatory, land use, and municipal matters, including hearings and approvals
• Review title matters and negotiate SNDAs and other lender approval instruments
• Manage due diligence and transactional documentation for acquisitions and development projects
