Role Context The Consultant Dermatologist will take senior clinical responsibility for evaluating and managing patients with routine, complex, and chronic dermatological conditions. The position combines specialist diagnostic judgment with procedural care, individualized treatment planning, and ongoing disease management. Through accurate diagnosis and appropriate therapeutic decisions, the consultant will contribute directly to clinical outcomes, continuity of care, and the overall quality of Dermatology services.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive specialist consultations for patients presenting with dermatological symptoms and conditions.
• Obtain relevant medical histories and perform detailed skin examinations to support accurate diagnosis.
• Diagnose and treat a broad range of acute and chronic dermatological disorders.
• Manage complex cases requiring advanced specialist assessment and longer-term clinical supervision.
• Formulate differential diagnoses and determine appropriate investigations where required.
• Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings, disease severity, patient circumstances, and expected outcomes.
• Perform appropriate dermatological procedures within the approved scope of consultant practice.
• Monitor patient response to treatment and adjust management strategies according to clinical progress.
• Provide structured follow-up for patients with chronic or recurrent skin disorders.
• Counsel patients regarding their diagnosis, treatment options, medication use, expected outcomes, and ongoing skin care.
• Explain procedural requirements and relevant risks clearly before treatment.
• Recognize changes in a patient 's condition and initiate appropriate additional investigation, treatment, or referral.
• Maintain complete and accurate consultation notes, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedure records, and follow-up documentation.
• Protect patient confidentiality and ensure appropriate handling of medical information.
• Apply established patient-safety, infection-control, and clinical quality requirements.
• Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals when patients require multidisciplinary management.
• Provide clear clinical communication and appropriate handover for cases involving other specialties.
• Maintain professional knowledge of developments in dermatological diagnosis, treatment, and procedural practice.
• Participate in continuing medical education and activities supporting professional competence.
• Contribute to consistently high standards of patient-centered care within the Dermatology department.

Ideal Profile

The successful candidate will hold an MD, DNB, Board, Fellowship, PhD, or equivalent recognized higher specialty qualification in Dermatology. Several years of relevant Dermatology experience are required, together with substantial post-qualification clinical practice. Candidates should be confident managing both common dermatological presentations and more complex or chronic cases. Strong diagnostic skills are essential, including the ability to evaluate clinical findings, establish appropriate differential diagnoses, determine treatment priorities, and monitor therapeutic response. Experience performing appropriate dermatological procedures is required within the candidate 's approved clinical scope. The ideal consultant will communicate clearly and empathetically with patients, maintain precise clinical documentation, work effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare professionals, and demonstrate a consistent commitment to safe and high-quality specialist care.
