Context
The Consultant ENT Surgeon - Rhinoplasty will provide comprehensive medical and surgical treatment for ear, nose, and throat disorders, with particular emphasis on nasal function, appearance, and reconstruction. The consultant will manage airway obstruction, septal deviation, chronic sinus disease, nasal trauma, congenital deformities, and other conditions requiring advanced nasal surgery. This position directly influences breathing function, facial balance, surgical safety, and patient satisfaction. The consultant will also contribute to clinical governance, service development, medical education, research, and the adoption of current rhinoplasty and ENT techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and manage a broad range of ear, nose, and throat disorders in adult and adolescent patients.
- Assess patients seeking functional or cosmetic nasal surgery.
- Perform functional rhinoplasty to improve nasal airflow and correct structural obstruction.
- Carry out cosmetic rhinoplasty procedures in line with patient goals and clinically appropriate standards.
- Perform septoplasty and septorhinoplasty for nasal deformity and airway correction.
- Conduct functional endoscopic sinus surgery for chronic or complex sinus disease.
- Undertake nasal reconstruction following trauma, congenital abnormality, previous surgery, or disease.
- Manage deviated nasal septum, nasal valve collapse, chronic sinusitis, airway obstruction, and nasal deformities.
- Complete detailed preoperative assessments, including clinical examination, medical history review, photography, and surgical planning.
- Explain treatment alternatives, expected results, limitations, recovery requirements, and potential surgical risks.
- Provide structured postoperative care, wound review, complication management, and long-term follow-up.
- Interpret nasal endoscopy findings, CT imaging, laboratory results, and other relevant diagnostic investigations.
- Manage urgent ENT and nasal conditions within the consultant's approved scope of practice.
- Coordinate complex cases with plastic surgeons, maxillofacial surgeons, anesthesiologists, radiologists, and allied healthcare professionals.
- Maintain accurate consultation notes, consent forms, operative reports, imaging records, and follow-up documentation.
- Follow hospital quality, infection-control, patient-safety, and clinical governance requirements.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, surgical case reviews, clinical audits, and morbidity and mortality discussions.
- Teach and mentor junior doctors, residents, nurses, and other clinical staff.
- Support research, continuing medical education, and professional conference participation.
- Remain current with developments in preservation rhinoplasty, structural rhinoplasty, nasal reconstruction, and modern ENT practice.
Ideal Profile
- MBBS, MD, or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
- Completion of accredited specialist training in Otolaryngology or ENT Surgery.
- Fellowship, formal subspecialty training, or substantial consultant-level experience in Rhinoplasty.
- Western education or clinical experience from the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or an equivalent system is preferred.
- Eligibility for a Dubai Health Authority Consultant License in Otolaryngology.
- Minimum 5 years of post-specialization experience as a Consultant ENT Surgeon.
- Previous practice within a reputable tertiary-care or specialist hospital.
- Proven expertise in functional rhinoplasty, cosmetic rhinoplasty, septoplasty, and septorhinoplasty.
- Strong experience in functional endoscopic sinus surgery and advanced nasal procedures.
- Competence in treating nasal airway obstruction, congenital deformities, trauma-related damage, and chronic sinus disease.
- Ability to interpret nasal endoscopy, CT imaging, and specialist ENT investigations.
- Sound aesthetic judgment combined with a strong understanding of nasal anatomy and respiratory function.
- Excellent surgical decision-making, communication, and patient-counseling skills.
- Ability to set realistic expectations and discuss cosmetic outcomes sensitively.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice, surgical safety, confidentiality, and patient-centered care.
