Overview
The role is a senior surgical position responsible for performing complex cardiac procedures on infants, children and adolescents, managing critical cases, and delivering advanced surgical care within a specialized cardiac program.
Role Context
The Consultant Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon will provide expert surgical care for congenital and acquired heart conditions, coordinating multidisciplinary care and ensuring optimal outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex pediatric cardiac surgeries, including open‑heart procedures and congenital defect corrections.
- Provide comprehensive pre‑operative and post‑operative care, including ICU management and follow‑up.
- Collaborate with pediatric cardiologists, anesthesiologists, and intensivists for coordinated care.
- Participate in on‑call duties and emergency surgical interventions.
- Supervise and mentor junior doctors, residents, and fellows.
- Contribute to clinical audits, research, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate and compliant medical documentation.
Ideal Profile
- Medical degree with specialization in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
- Fellowship in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery from a recognized institution.
- Board certification such as FRCS, American Board, or equivalent.
- Minimum 5–10 years of post‑fellowship experience.
- Proven expertise in pediatric cardiac surgical procedures.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Experience in high‑volume or tertiary healthcare centres preferred.
- Fluency in English; Arabic is an advantage.
