Accounting Manager - Law Firm

Feldesman LLP is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join our Washington, DC office. This position serves as the Firm’s senior internal accounting professional and is responsible for the management and oversight of the Firm’s accounting and financial operations.

We are looking for a hands-on accounting professional with strong cash-basis accounting experience who is comfortable both overseeing and performing the day-to-day work of the accounting function. The ideal candidate will have prior law firm accounting experience and a strong understanding of billing, collections, financial reporting, and the financial operations of a professional services environment.

The Accounting Manager will work closely with Firm leadership and oversee accounting services provided by outside professionals. This position requires someone who takes ownership of the Firm's accounting operations, exercises sound judgment, identifies and resolves issues independently, and ensures that financial information is accurate, complete, and timely.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Firm’s day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and month-end and year-end close.
• Maintain the Firm’s books on a cash basis and prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
• Oversee the Firm’s billing and collections processes, including review of client invoices, monitoring accounts receivable, following up on outstanding balances, and working with attorneys to address billing and collection issues.
• Monitor cash flow and banking activities, including receipts, disbursements, partner distributions, and anticipated financial obligations.
• Coordinate payroll with the Firm’s payroll provider, including preparing and submitting payroll information, reviewing payroll for accuracy, and overseeing related accounting and retirement plan contributions.
• Oversee client trust accounting and review Firm expenses and employee and partner reimbursements to ensure appropriate documentation, reconciliation, and compliance with Firm policies.
• Manage the annual budgeting process and provide Firm leadership with accurate and timely financial reporting and analysis.
• Work closely with the Firm’s outside accounting firm on tax filings, year-end reporting, and other accounting and tax matters, including providing required financial information and documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible, hands-on accounting experience.
• Demonstrated experience with cash-basis accounting.
• Experience with billing, collections, financial reporting, payroll, and general ledger accounting.
• Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting and financial management systems.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications

• Accounting experience in a law firm or professional services environment; law firm experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with SurePoint or a comparable law firm financial management system.
• CPA preferred but not required.

The good faith base salary range for this position is $140,000 - $175,000. The actual salary offered to candidates within that range will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, years of relevant experience, education, and the candidate's overall qualifications for the position as assessed by the Firm.
