Group Head – Copy

Role Overview

We're looking for a Group Head – Copy who combines strong creative instincts with leadership maturity. Someone who has spent years building brands in fast-paced digital agencies and knows how to elevate ideas from good to exceptional.

This role sits above Copywriter and is responsible for strengthening creative thinking, refining work, mentoring teams, and ensuring consistent quality across multiple brands. You'll partner closely with Copywriters to sharpen concepts, strengthen storytelling, and improve overall creative output before it reaches the ACD.

You should be equally comfortable reviewing a social media script, improving a campaign idea, mentoring a writer, and solving creative challenges across diverse categories.

Roles & Responsibilities

Creative Leadership & Quality Control

• Review and elevate creative work across multiple brands and teams.

• Refine concepts, scripts, campaigns, and content ideas to ensure strategic and creative excellence.

• Provide clear, constructive feedback that improves thinking rather than simply correcting execution.

• Maintain high standards of creativity, craft, and brand relevance across all deliverables.

• Act as the key quality checkpoint before work reaches the ACD.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

• Lead and mentor Creative Managers and copy teams.

• Coach team members on writing, storytelling, ideation, and platform-native thinking.

• Identify capability gaps and actively develop talent within the team.

• Foster a culture of creative ambition, collaboration, and accountability.

Campaign & Content Development

• Lead ideation for campaigns, social content, brand activations, and digital-first initiatives.

• Bring fresh thinking and contemporary cultural relevance to brand communication.

• Ensure ideas are rooted in strategic objectives while remaining engaging and memorable.

• Guide teams in developing platform-first content for Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and emerging channels.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner closely with ACDs, Art leads, Strategy, Account Management, and Production teams.

• Translate business and marketing objectives into strong creative solutions.

• Participate in client-facing discussions when required and confidently articulate creative rationale.

• Support new business pitches and creative presentations.

Creative Operations

• Oversee creative workload across multiple brands and projects.

• Ensure timely delivery without compromising quality.

• Help establish processes, review systems, and best practices that improve creative efficiency.

• Balance day-to-day content requirements with long-term brand building.

Your Experience

• 5-8 years of experience in leading digital, integrated, or social-first agencies.

• Experience working across multiple brands and categories simultaneously.

• Prior experience mentoring writers or junior creative teams.

• Strong portfolio demonstrating campaign thinking, social-first creativity, and brand storytelling.

• Experience in agencies such as Schbang, Digitas, The Glitch, Sociowash, Dentsu Creative, FCB Kinnect, Wondrlab, Webchutney, or similar digital-first environments.

Must-Have Mindset

• Thinks beyond execution and focuses on improving ideas.

• Strong editorial eye with exceptional attention to detail.

• Comfortable giving feedback and challenging creative work constructively.

• Deep understanding of culture, social media, and evolving consumer behaviour.

• Balances creative ambition with business objectives.

• Takes ownership of team output, not just individual contributions.

• Enjoys mentoring and helping others produce their best work.
