Learning Specialist – AI & Child Learning

BlueCat AI is a learning product for children aged 8–12, designed to help them becomeempowered by AI rather than led by it.
Through interactive stories, investigation, evidence gathering, decision-making and reflection, BlueCat helps children build critical thinking, judgement, confidence and resilience in how they engage with AI.
We are looking for aLearning Specialistwho can shape the educational framework behind BlueCat and work closely with product, content, UX/UI and technology teams to ensure that every scenario delivers meaningful, age-appropriate learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and evolve BlueCat’s learning framework across key AI-related vulnerabilities, including critical thinking, cognitive delegation, hallucination, bias, persuasion, emotional dependency, privacy, harmful content and overreliance on AI.
- Translate these vulnerabilities into clear, age-appropriate learning objectives, scenario structures, scaffolding, reflection and measurable outcomes.
- Ensure scenarios encourage questioning, investigation, evidence evaluation and independent judgement rather than simply guiding children toward “correct answers.”
- Design progression across ages 8–12, including appropriate levels of difficulty, support and cognitive challenge.
- Review scripts, interactions, hints, consequences and reflection activities for learning quality and developmental appropriateness.
- Advise on how gamification can support motivation and learning without distracting from the core educational objective or encouraging superficial reward-seeking.
- Guide the product team on effective EdTech practices, learning mechanics and evidence-based approaches to engagement.
- Support the design of assessment and reflection methods that measure reasoning, transfer and understanding rather than memorisation.
- Help define how BlueCat should support children without taking over their thinking or becoming overly directive.
- Contribute to usability and learning testing with children and interpret findings from an educational perspective.
- Advise on accessibility, inclusion, safeguarding and age-appropriate learning design.
- Help ensure consistency across scenarios, themes and future product extensions.
What We’re Looking For
- Degree inEducation, Learning Sciences, Educational Psychology, Instructional Design, Child Development or a related field; postgraduate qualification is a strong advantage.
- Strong experience designing learning experiences for children, ideally ages 8–12.
- Strong understanding ofcritical thinking, inquiry-based learning, metacognition, formative assessment and transfer of learning.
- Experience withgamification in education, game-based learning or interactive learning design.
- Good understanding ofEdTech products and digital learning experiences, with the ability to advise product teams on what genuinely supports learning.
- Ability to translate complex concepts into clear, engaging and age-appropriate activities.
- Strong understanding of child development, digital literacy and emerging AI-related risks for children.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams across product, design, content and technology.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain learning rationale clearly to non-education specialists.
Experience inAI literacy, media literacy, digital citizenship, child online safety, interactive storytelling or educational gameswould be a strong advantage.
