Counsel (New York, NY): A leading global alternative investment manager is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its New York office. The firm has experienced significant growth, including doubling its assets under management over the past three years, and this position is being added as a result of that continued growth. This individual will join a highly regarded legal team and have broad exposure across the organization, working closely with investment professionals, senior management and other business functions. The role will focus on a mix of fund structuring and documentation, corporate and transactional matters, and commercial and employment-related agreements.

- Newly created position due to continued growth
- Broad exposure across the entire firm, including investment, operations, finance and other business teams
- Significant interaction with senior management and investment professionals
- Opportunity to work across a wide range of legal matters rather than being siloed into one area
- Join a firm that is performing extremely well and continuing to grow
- Compensation: Competitive total compensation with a lower-base, higher-bonus structure. While base salaries are typically below comparable law firm compensation, strong performers can achieve total compensation that is competitive with private practice, with upside depending on experience and performance.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the structuring, documentation and maintenance of investment vehicles, including fund formation documents, offering materials, subscription documents, side letters and related agreements
- Draft, negotiate and review a broad range of corporate and commercial agreements
- Advise investment professionals and business teams on day-to-day legal matters

- Partner with teams across the organization to provide practical, commercially minded legal advice
- Assist with developing and improving legal policies, templates and processes
Qualifications:
- 4-8 years of post-JD experience
- Experience at a leading law firm, ideally focused on investment funds, corporate structuring and/or capital markets
- Prior in-house experience at a hedge fund or alternative asset manager is a plus
