Legal Counsel | Investment Management | Chicago
I’m working with a leading global investment management firm looking to add a Legal Counsel to its Legal & Compliance team in Chicago.
This is a hands-on role for an attorney who enjoys the combination of commercial contracts, legal operations and process management. You’ll work closely with senior members of the legal team and stakeholders across the business, taking ownership of both legal work and the detail required to keep a sophisticated legal function running effectively.
The role:
- Review, negotiate and manage a range of commercial contracts
- Manage contracts throughout their lifecycle, including execution, renewals and key term tracking
- Maintain and administer the firm’s contract management systems and processes
- Support entity management, tracking and reporting
- Help improve legal processes, workflows and documentation
- Partner with Legal & Compliance colleagues on broader projects and initiatives across the firm
- Take ownership of both substantive legal matters and the administrative and process-driven work required to support the team
What they’re looking for:
- JD with 2+ years of relevant legal experience
- Background within investment management, financial services or a law firm preferred
- Strong commercial contracting and negotiation skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple priorities
- Proactive, self-starting and willing to take ownership with a genuine “no task is too small” mindset
- Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Commercially minded with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable using technology, including AI tools, to work more effectively while applying appropriate judgment to outputs
