Big Fish Consult’s recent posting for a Legal Manager (Projects & Construction) in Abu Dhabi is more than a vacancy—it is a gateway to a high‑impact career at the intersection of law, infrastructure, and international business. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) continues to invest billions in mega‑projects, from soaring skyscrapers to sprawling renewable‑energy complexes. For a lawyer with a construction‑focused mindset, the role offers a rare blend of strategic advisory, contract negotiation, and risk‑mitigation responsibilities that can accelerate professional growth and position you as a go‑to authority in the region.
“In the UAE, the legal framework for construction is evolving faster than the skyline itself. A Legal Manager who can translate that dynamism into actionable counsel becomes an indispensable asset.” – Industry Insider
Abu Dhabi is not just the political heart of the UAE; it is the epicentre of large‑scale development initiatives such as Masdar City, the Al Maryah Island financial district, and the upcoming Abu Dhabi International Airport expansion. These projects demand sophisticated legal oversight, especially in areas like:
By joining Big Fish Consult, you will be embedded in a consultancy that advises both public‑sector entities and private developers, giving you exposure to a portfolio that spans oil‑and‑gas infrastructure, renewable‑energy parks, and luxury real‑estate.
Even though the posting does not list explicit eligibility criteria, recruiters in the UAE typically look for a combination of academic credentials, practical experience, and cultural fluency. Below is a practical checklist to ensure your application stands out:
When tailoring your CV, adopt a results‑oriented format. Highlight quantifiable achievements such as "Negotiated a $120million EPC contract that reduced client exposure by 15% through strategic risk‑sharing clauses." Use bullet points for clarity and embed keywords that align with the job description (e.g., "construction law," "project finance," "FIDIC," "UAE regulatory framework").
Big Fish Consult is known for its rigorous interview process, often comprising a technical assessment, a case‑study simulation, and a behavioural round. Here’s how to ace each stage:
Remember to research Big Fish Consult’s recent projects. Mentioning a specific engagement—such as their advisory role on the Al Ain Renewable Energy Park—signals genuine interest and demonstrates that you have done your homework.
In the UAE, the legal career ladder is relatively flat compared with Western markets, but the upside lies in rapid responsibility escalation. A successful stint as Legal Manager can open doors to:
Each step is underpinned by a deepening network of industry contacts—architects, engineers, financiers, and government officials. Leverage Big Fish Consult’s client base to build relationships that will serve you long after you move on.
Beyond the professional allure, the expatriate experience in Abu Dhabi offers a high standard of living, tax‑free salaries, and a multicultural environment. Key points to consider:
Networking events hosted by the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce, the International Bar Association’s Middle East chapter, and industry‑specific forums (e.g., Construction Law Forum UAE) are excellent venues to showcase your expertise and expand your professional circle.
The pandemic accelerated the adoption of digital contract management, remote dispute resolution, and sustainability clauses. In Abu Dhabi, the government’s Vision 2030 emphasizes green building standards, meaning that legal professionals must now be fluent in environmental compliance, ESG reporting, and renewable‑energy financing structures. Positioning yourself as a forward‑thinking Legal Manager—one who can advise on carbon‑offset mechanisms or green‑bond issuance—will future‑proof your career and make you indispensable to forward‑looking developers.
With these steps, you will not only meet the baseline expectations but also demonstrate the strategic mindset that Big Fish Consult seeks in a Legal Manager.
Q1: Do I need to be a UAE‑qualified lawyer to apply?
A: While a UAE bar membership is advantageous, many firms accept foreign‑qualified lawyers who hold a valid work visa and possess substantial experience in construction law. Highlight any cross‑border transactions you have handled.
Q2: What is the typical salary range for a Legal Manager in Abu Dhabi?
A: Compensation varies widely based on experience and firm size, but senior legal managers in the construction sector typically earn between AED 30,000 and AED 45,000 per month, often supplemented by housing allowances and performance bonuses.
Q3: How important is knowledge of FIDIC contracts?
A: Extremely important. FIDIC clauses are the backbone of most international construction agreements in the GCC. Demonstrating proficiency—through certifications or case‑study examples—will set you apart.
Q4: Can I negotiate remote‑work flexibility?
A: The construction industry is inherently on‑site, but many legal functions (e.g., contract drafting, compliance reviews) can be performed remotely. Discuss flexibility during the interview, emphasizing your ability to maintain productivity regardless of location.
