Marine Engineer

Job title: Marine Engineer

Location: New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

The Opportunity

A leading global marine and energy consultancy is opening a New Orleans seat for the first time in years and needs a senior marine engineer to build it. The Gulf Coast bench has sat empty since its last engineer left for the autonomous shipping sector, part of a wider pull of marine engineers away from traditional survey work. Whoever takes this on builds the practice, not inherits one.

The Impact You Will Have

• Own marine casualty investigations across the Gulf Coast and Mississippi River, first call to final report
• Represent the firm as an expert witness in court and arbitration on high-value marine disputes
• Build and lead a small technical team as the New Orleans practice grows
• Develop new client relationships in an established but underserved regional market

What Success Looks Like

• A Class 1 (or Class 2 with strong sea-going pedigree) engineer who has genuinely sailed, not surveyed from a desk
• Equally comfortable on deck and in front of a judge: writing and testimony matter as much as judgement
• Confident working alone, unsupervised, on-site from the Mississippi to the Caribbean at short notice
• A builder, not a caretaker: ready to mentor, lead a small team and develop new business

What Is on Offer

• A leading role in a fast-growing regional practice, backed by an established global firm
• A base salary with a billables-linked bonus that rewards the business you bring in
• Full family medical cover, matched retirement contributions and real autonomy
• A global platform: colleagues and casework across the UK, Asia Pacific and the Americas

A rare opening for a senior marine engineer ready to build something, not simply staff it. For a confidential conversation, get in touch.
