Organizational context: The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Qatar seeks an MHPSS Associate (Counsellor) to support psychosocial well-being. Reporting to the Programme Manager (MHPSS) under the Head of Office (CAS), this role is crucial for delivering essential mental health and psychosocial support services within the organization's operations.
Job purpose: The MHPSS Associate (Counsellor) is responsible for organizing and delivering problem- and emotion-based psychoeducation, support groups, and individual counselling sessions. This role directly contributes to enhancing the mental health and psychosocial well-being of individuals and communities served by IOM. By facilitating support interventions and capacity-building activities, the incumbent plays a vital part in strengthening resilience and promoting recovery, aligning with IOM's mandate to assist vulnerable populations and ensure their psychosocial stability.
Responsibilities: Key responsibilities include assisting in the organization and delivery of individual and group MHPSS services, and coordinating interventions with mental health specialists. The role involves supporting primary caregivers in assisting families with mental health challenges and aiding in the development of recovery plans for individuals, couples, families, and groups. Additionally, the MHPSS Associate will help organize platforms for disseminating MHPSS information and advocacy messages, and assist in reporting all services provided through the designated data entry system. Capacity building activities for staff and community volunteers on psychosocial support are also a core duty, alongside supporting programme monitoring and evaluation.
Education: A University or Bachelor's Degree in counselling psychology or a related field with three years of relevant experience is required. Alternatively, a high school degree with at least five years of relevant professional experience will be considered.
Work experience: Proven experience in a Mental Health Counselling Unit or similar setting is essential. Experience working with at-risk community members and in liaising with governmental and diplomatic authorities, as well as international organizations, is also required.
Skills: Proficiency in MHPSS programming, psychosocial support, and community-based activities. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to draft clear reports. Excellent organisational, facilitation, writing, and presentation skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office and data entry/database management.
