Position Summary
The Plant Accountant provides professional-level accounting, financial and compliance support for one of our client's production facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Cost
- Take part in daily accounting activities that support timely, accurate reporting and better performance
- Investigate and analyze monthly cost variances and help develop appropriate cost structures
- Reconcile weigh tickets, purchase orders and invoices; resolve discrepancies for raw materials; and confirm receipts are recorded accurately in the production system
- Review vendor invoices for accuracy and support AP processing, purchasing and general ledger activity
- Reconcile material valuations at month-end and prepare journal entries
- Contribute to a month-end close
- Perform financial review and analysis of operating results, and build ad hoc reports as needed
Process Improvement & Compliance
- Evaluate existing processes and recommend changes that improve accuracy and efficiency
- Identify opportunities for new processes and make recommendations
- Support Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and other internal and external compliance requirements
- Provide direction, guidance and education to the management team and plant staff to promote accurate accounting and strong financial performance
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- 2-5 years of hands-on accounting experience
- Experience with cost accounting, AP invoice review, general ledger and purchasing
- Ability to work independently in company business systems such as AP, Purchasing, General Ledger, raw material and order fulfillment systems
- Highly functional Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel and PowerPoint
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a deadline-driven environment
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with a strong track record of collaborating with operations and plant supervisors
- Strong ability to plan, organize and prioritize, with an aptitude for analysis, process improvement and problem solving
