A rebar engineer is a construction professional who works on projects that involve concrete earthwork piling and rebar. Their responsibilities include:
- Designing reinforcement structures : Rebar engineers use structural engineering software to analyze and calculate the forces loads and stresses on reinforced concrete elements. They ensure that the reinforcement design can withstand anticipated loads.
- Determining quantities sizes shapes and locations of reinforcing rods : Rebar engineers determine the quantities sizes shapes and locations of reinforcing rods.
- Supervising rebar installation and dismantling : Rebar engineers supervise the installation and dismantling of forms and concreting works.
- Conducting site inspections : Rebar engineers conduct regular site inspections.
- Ensuring materials comply with approved cutting lists : Rebar engineers ensure that materials comply with approved cutting lists.
- Ensuring work meets specifications : Rebar engineers ensure that work meets specifications.
Rebar engineers should have a BS in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or a related field. They should also be computer literate and familiar with Windows operating systems and be able to use Excel spreadsheets effectively.

- 35 years Gulf experience preferable
