Senior Accountant
Salary Range: $95,000–$110,000
Sid Jacobson JCC is a nonprofit organization based in East Hills, serving individuals and families throughout Nassau County. Rooted in Jewish values, we welcome people of all backgrounds, faiths, identities, and abilities.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to take significant responsibility for our general ledger and organizational budget. The role is also closely involved in monthly and year-end close, financial reporting, forecasting, audit, and the day-to-day accounting needs of the organization.
We need someone who knows accounting and will dig in. When something doesn't reconcile or a number doesn't make sense, you figure out why. You ask questions, follow things through, and take responsibility for getting to the right answer.
How you work with people matters too. Finance supports every part of SJJCC, and you will work with staff and department leaders with very different levels of financial knowledge. Being responsive, explaining things clearly, and handling difficult conversations professionally are important parts of the job.
This role reports to the Controller and works closely with our fractional CFO.
Hands-on Sage Intacct experience is required.
Own key areas of the general ledger and monthly and year-end close.
Handle journal entries, accruals, allocations, reclassifications, and account reconciliations.
Investigate discrepancies and see them through to resolution.
Take a lead role in the annual budget and work directly with department leaders throughout the process.
Monitor budget-to-actual results, explain variances, and flag issues that need attention.
Produce monthly financial reporting and support forecasting and analysis throughout the year.
Oversee accounting for grants, restricted funds, designated funding, and multiple programs and cost centers.
Support the annual audit and respond to auditor requests.
Make sure activity flowing from accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash, and other areas is reflected correctly in the general ledger.
Help improve accounting processes when something isn't working well.
Serve as a Finance resource for staff and department leaders across the organization.
Step into other areas of Finance when needed.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
Hands-on Sage Intacct experience is required.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and Excel.
Experience working independently through complex accounting issues.
Strong judgment, accuracy, and follow-through.
Clear communicator who can work well with people across an organization.
Nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred.
CPA or CPA-track experience is a plus, but not required.
SJJCC offers eligible full-time employees health benefits, generous paid time off, retirement benefits, and access to many of SJJCC's health, wellness, fitness, and community resources.
$95,000–$110,000 , based on experience and qualifications.
Sid Jacobson JCC is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome candidates with different backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, and identities.
