Job Description
The Surveyor - Civil will ensure that civil works are constructed at the correct position, alignment, elevation, and level in accordance with approved drawings, project coordinate systems, design information, and specified tolerances. The role requires hands-on construction surveying capability across earthworks, structures, drainage, depot areas, buildings, and infrastructure alignments. It also involves close coordination with site engineers, QA-QC personnel, and contractor survey teams to maintain reliable survey control and accurate construction records.
Setting-Out and Survey Control
- Establish and maintain survey control points, benchmarks, and reference grids across project sites and alignments.
- Set out alignments, levels, gridlines, and reference points using approved drawings and design data.
- Provide setting-out support for earthworks, structures, drainage, depot works, online buildings, and associated civil construction.
- Conduct topographic, cross-section, volume, and quantity surveys to support construction planning and progress measurement.
- Verify the setting-out completed by contractor survey teams before construction proceeds on key elements.
As-Built Verification and Monitoring
- Conduct as-built surveys to confirm completed construction against approved designs and specified tolerances.
- Prepare as-built drawings, survey records, and supporting documentation for QA-QC verification and project handover.
- Perform monitoring surveys for settlement, deformation, alignment, and other movement affecting structures, earthworks, and track-related works.
- Identify survey discrepancies and support their investigation and resolution before they affect subsequent construction activities.
Survey Data and Reporting
- Process and manage field survey information using AutoCAD Civil 3D or equivalent survey and CAD software.
- Maintain accurate coordinate registers, field books, calculation sheets, instrument logs, and supporting survey records.
- Prepare survey reports and progress or quantity records for project management, QA-QC, and commercial teams.
- Maintain traceable survey information throughout construction and handover activities.
Coordination and Compliance
- Coordinate daily surveying requirements with site engineers, QA-QC teams, and contractor survey personnel.
- Ensure surveying activities comply with project specifications, approved coordinate systems, datums, and applicable standards.
- Maintain survey instruments and equipment in appropriate working condition and ensure required calibration is kept current.
- Promptly report instrument defects, calibration concerns, and other issues that could affect survey accuracy.
- Assist in resolving survey-related technical queries, discrepancies, and non-conformances.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 5 to 8 years of construction or site surveying experience, including setting-out and as-built survey activities.
- Proficiency with total stations, GNSS-GPS equipment, levels, and other relevant surveying instruments.
- Practical capability with survey and CAD software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Middle East or UAE experience is highly advantageous.
- Rail or major infrastructure project experience is preferable.
- Degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline, or demonstrated equivalent experience.
