Senior Developer & Technical Lead – Fashion Tech
India (Remote) | Full-Time | Permanent | Fashion Tech / E-commerce / AI
Placed by Hotsourced – connecting top Indian talent with world-class global companies
This is an opportunity to take meaningful technical ownership within an ambitious Norwegian fashion-tech company building the body-and-fit intelligence layer for online fashion commerce.
Our client is developing technology that helps online shoppers answer some of fashion e-commerce’s most difficult questions: Will this fit my body? Which size should I choose? How will it look on me? And how should I style it? Following the launch of its first Shopify-integrated product in 2025, the business is moving from early commercial deployments toward a scalable, multi-brand and multi-platform product.
Company Description
Our client is a Norwegian fashion-tech company building an online store-integrated virtual dressing room designed to make online fashion shopping more personalised, confident, and reliable.
The platform combines smartphone-based body scanning with garment and product data to provide high-accuracy size and fit guidance. It also incorporates a reusable shopper body profile and digital twin, virtual try-on technology, and AI-powered conversational styling and product matching.
For fashion brands and retailers, the platform is designed to improve purchase confidence and conversion, reduce returns, and provide better insight into customer and product behaviour.
The technology currently spans a customer-facing e-commerce widget, smartphone body scanning, digital twins, product catalogue scraping and enrichment, size recommendations, fit explanations, virtual try-on, AI styling, conversational shopping support, shopper profile management, and merchant analytics and administration.
The current technology stack includes Python, TypeScript, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, AWS, and BotPress , alongside specialist third-party technologies for body scanning, digital twins, and virtual try-on.
The company is now entering an important stage of growth, with a focus on increasing internal technical ownership while continuing to work with high-quality specialist technology partners.
About The Role
We are looking for a Senior Developer & Technical Lead who will take hands-on responsibility for the company’s technology, architecture, and technical roadmap while becoming a fully integrated member of the executive team.
This is a broad product-engineering and technology-leadership role sitting at the intersection of software architecture, e-commerce, data, AI services, privacy, and external technology integrations.
You will understand and progressively own the full technology environment end to end, make pragmatic architectural decisions, contribute production code, and translate the company’s product and commercial ambitions into a realistic and scalable technical roadmap.
You will work closely with the founders, product and commercial teams, external development partners, specialist AI and technology providers, and customers’ technical teams.
The role begins as a senior individual contributor and technical lead , with the potential to grow into broader Head of Engineering or CTO-level responsibility as the business and internal engineering team expand.
Responsibilities - What you’ll be doing:
- Establish internal ownership and control of the architecture, codebase, infrastructure, data, documentation, deployments, access management, and technical roadmap.
- Review existing technical debt, security, scalability, data flows, operational risks, and supplier dependencies, and prioritise improvements according to business impact.
- Build and maintain production services, APIs, integrations, data models, and customer-facing functionality.
- Introduce and maintain strong engineering practices around reliability, testing, observability, deployment, and software delivery.
- Develop the platform toward a modular, headless, API-first architecture supporting repeatable merchant and product onboarding across brands, commerce platforms, markets, and product categories.
- Strengthen the shopper-profile and data foundation, including clear approaches to consent, privacy, security, ownership, and access boundaries aligned with GDPR and enterprise requirements.
- Own and improve integrations with e-commerce platforms, initially centred around Shopify, while preparing the technology for additional commerce ecosystems.
- Manage specialist technology providers across scanning, sizing, virtual try-on, styling, and AI capabilities.
- Define and monitor measurable standards for third-party technology covering quality, cost, latency, scalability, privacy, reliability, and vendor risk.
- Support the evolution of virtual try-on toward multi-size, multi-garment, and outfit-based experiences.
- Develop and integrate AI-enabled styling, conversational shopping, and shopper-support functionality.
- Prepare secure, well-defined tools and APIs for future AI-agent commerce, using interoperability standards such as MCP where they provide practical value.
- Introduce pragmatic engineering standards and improve visibility into infrastructure costs, development capacity, dependencies, and technical performance.
- Work directly with customers and their technical teams to support integrations and successful implementations.
- Continue improving the existing system while maintaining delivery momentum and avoiding unnecessary complexity.
- Help recruit, develop, and eventually lead a small internal product-engineering team as the company scales.
- Contribute actively as part of the executive team, communicating technical opportunities, risks, dependencies, and trade-offs clearly.
Requirements - What we’re looking for:
We think the right candidate will tick most of the following boxes:
- Strong senior-level experience building and operating customer-facing software products in production .
- Proven hands-on full-stack development experience spanning APIs, backend services, data, integrations, infrastructure, and user-facing applications .
- Strong practical software architecture experience, particularly with modular, API-first, event-driven, SaaS, or marketplace systems .
- Experience working with Python, TypeScript and/or JavaScript in production environments.
- Strong cloud engineering competence, ideally within AWS , including databases, networking, security, observability, testing, CI/CD, infrastructure operations, and cost management.
- Experience integrating with Shopify or other major e-commerce platforms .
- Strong understanding of application and data security, including authentication, permissions, consent, GDPR, privacy, and trusted data-platform design .
- Experience taking ownership of an existing codebase or technical environment and improving it while continuing to ship customer-facing functionality.
- Ability to assess technical debt and make pragmatic decisions balancing scalability, engineering quality, speed, cost, and commercial priorities.
- Experience working with and managing external developers, specialist technology suppliers, or engineering partners.
- Previous experience growing, mentoring, or managing development teams.
- Professional to fluent proficiency in written and spoken English .
- Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to explain architecture decisions, technical risks, dependencies, uncertainty, and trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A strong ownership mindset and willingness to contribute directly rather than operating solely as an adviser or manager.
Nice to Have
- Experience with PIM, ERP, CRM, checkout, product catalogue, or merchant-data integrations .
- Experience developing AI-enabled products , including language models, conversational AI, AI agents, or AI-powered product experiences.
- Experience with computer vision, body scanning, digital twins, virtual try-on, or image-generation technologies .
- Experience with conversational platforms such as BotPress .
- Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) or related approaches to AI-agent interoperability and tool integration.
- Experience within fashion-tech, retail-tech, e-commerce, marketplaces, or high-growth SaaS businesses .
- Experience designing platforms intended to serve multiple brands, customers, markets, or commerce environments.
Mindset
- You are an owner, not only an adviser.
- You believe in and actively demonstrate a growth mindset.
- You are curious and continuously looking for insight and opportunities to improve.
- You are comfortable challenging ideas and constructively discussing different perspectives with the C-level team.
- You understand the difference between an impressive technology demonstration and a dependable production product.
- You care about the shopper experience, merchant outcomes, and underlying business value.
- You are comfortable inheriting an imperfect system, understanding it quickly, and improving it without unnecessarily slowing delivery.
- You simplify complexity and prioritise what creates meaningful value.
- You communicate openly about uncertainty, technical risks, dependencies, and trade-offs.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time, remote position .
Specific working hours were not provided in the role requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with the Norwegian executive, product, commercial, and technology teams, as well as external partners and customers.
Pay & Benefits - What we offer:
- Annual Compensation : 30 LPA to 36 LPA
- A senior technical position with significant ownership of the company’s architecture, engineering environment, and technology roadmap.
- A genuine opportunity to shape the technical foundations of a growing fashion-tech business as it moves from early commercial deployment into scalable growth.
- Direct involvement as part of the executive team , with meaningful influence over product and technology strategy.
- A highly hands-on role where you can combine software development, architecture, product engineering, and technology leadership.
- The opportunity to build internal engineering capability and help shape the future product-engineering team.
- Significant exposure to emerging technologies across AI, virtual try-on, computer vision, digital twins, e-commerce, and AI-agent commerce .
- The opportunity to work closely with specialist technology providers and ambitious fashion and e-commerce partners.
- Clear potential for the position to grow into broader Head of Engineering or CTO responsibility as the company scales.
- A collaborative environment where constructive challenge, curiosity, ownership, continuous learning, and pragmatic decision-making are encouraged.
