Yamada Automation is looking for a hands-on Development Engineer who can convert customer drawings and technical requirements into robust, economical and production-ready machining processes .

The role involves end-to-end ownership of new component development - from drawing feasibility and process planning to tooling, fixture development, CNC prove-out, dimensional validation, cycle-time stabilization and final handover to production.

Key Responsibilities

• Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, GD&T, datums, tolerances, fits and surface-finish requirements
• Conduct manufacturing feasibility reviews and identify machining, tolerance and inspection challenges
• Develop complete machining process routes for castings, forgings and raw-material components
• Select suitable HMC, VMC, CNC turning center, VTL and support processes
• Define machining setups, datum strategy, operation sequence and process parameters
• Select and optimize cutting tools, inserts, holders, feeds, speeds and depth of cut
• Design/develop fixtures and workholding systems using sound 3-2-1 locating principles
• Apply hydraulic/pneumatic fixtures, tombstones and 4th-axis concepts where appropriate
• Coordinate/create CNC programs and conduct dry runs, prove-outs and first-off machining
• Optimize cycle time, tool life, setup time, machine utilization and cost per component
• Troubleshoot dimensional variation, chatter, tool breakage, poor surface finish and fixture instability
• Prepare process sheets, setup sheets, tooling lists, fixture documentation and CNC program revision records
• Work closely with Quality, Production, Purchase and Maintenance for FAI, PPAP and production handover
• Train operators/setters on new setups and critical process controls

Technical Skills Required

Strong practical knowledge of:

Engineering Drawings & GD&T | HMC | VMC | CNC Turning | CAD/CAM | CNC Programming | Cutting Tools | Fixtures & Workholding | Feeds & Speeds | Process Planning | Cycle-Time Optimization | FAI | PPAP | Root-Cause Analysis

Experience in machining cast iron, SG iron, steel, alloy steel and aluminium components is preferred.

Exposure to horizontal tombstones, 4th-axis machining, hydraulic/pneumatic clamping and cast/forged components will be an advantage.

Qualification & Experience

• Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, Manufacturing or Tool Engineering
• Preferred experience: 4-8 years in machining development/manufacturing engineering
• Experience in automotive, railway, heavy engineering, precision machining or similar industries
• Hands-on exposure to HMCs, VMCs and CNC turning centers is essential
• Working knowledge of MS Excel and Word for technical documentation and development reports

Who Should Apply?

We are looking for a shop-floor-oriented engineer , not someone with only theoretical process knowledge.

The ideal candidate should be able to move confidently between a customer drawing, CAD/CAM system, CNC machine, cutting tool, fixture and inspection process and take ownership until the component is proven and the process is stable for regular production.

The candidate should be analytical, disciplined, data-driven and commercially aware , with the ability to balance quality, cycle time, tooling cost, fixture cost and machine utilization .

• Engineering drawing & GD&T interpretation
• Process route, machine selection and setup planning
• Cutting-tool selection and feeds/speeds calculation
• Fixture concept and datum/clamping strategy
• Troubleshooting of machining problems such as bore position error, chatter, tool failure and excessive cycle time
