Drafting Manager

Sunbelt Modular specializes in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of custom modular buildings for customers across a variety of commercial and industrial applications. Sunbelt Modular is seeking a Drafting Manager to lead the drafting function at its Boise, Idaho, operation. This is an opportunity for an experienced commercial building professional to combine technical expertise, building-code knowledge, and people leadership within a growing modular construction organization.

Role Overview

The Drafting Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day activities of the drafting department while ensuring that plans and drawings align with project quotes, customer requirements, production needs, purchasing requirements, and applicable building codes.

Success in this role requires a strong commercial building background, practical knowledge of building codes, and demonstrated people-management experience. The right candidate will be comfortable leading and developing a technical team, collaborating across departments, and providing drafting support when needed.

Location: Boise, ID

Work Arrangement: Full-time, on-site

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the day-to-day activities of the drafting department, providing clear direction and support to the team
• Review plans for accuracy against project quotes, customer-supplied drawings, production requirements, and purchasing requirements
• Read, review, interpret, and clearly communicate applicable state codes and requirements, including Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, Energy, and Accessibility
• Assist in the technical training and development of Drafting and Sales team members
• Identify, communicate, and address issues related to unclear quotes, production difficulties, drawing discrepancies, and potential misinterpretations
• Communicate and collaborate with other departments as needed to clarify project information and resolve technical issues
• Assist the drafting department with drawings and/or redlines as needed
• Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong attention to detail and organization
• Provide strong service to internal and external customers while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills

Basic Qualifications

• Relevant experience within commercial construction, commercial building design, drafting, architecture, engineering, or a related environment
• Commercial building experience with knowledge of applicable building codes and requirements
• Strong people-management experience with demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop a team
• Strong AutoCAD experience
• Experience with COMcheck, REScheck, and Microsoft Excel
• Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, plans, specifications, or related technical documents
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to effectively direct the department and collaborate across teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in modular, off-site, prefabricated, or manufactured construction
• Proficiency with Revit
• Previous leadership of drafting, design, engineering, architecture, or other technical professionals
• Familiarity with design-build or manufacturing-based construction projects
• Background providing technical training or development to drafting, design, or other technical teams

Additional Job Requirements:

• Able to successfully pass a criminal background check (following a conditional offer of employment)
• Ability to sit/stand at desk/workstation for prolonged periods of time
• Frequent use of hands/fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse; repetitive hand/wrist motions
• Ability to view and interpret detailed drawings, schematics, and specifications; ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time; close up vision required for precision work

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary range: $100,000–$125,000, based on experience
