Mid-Level Litigation Associate

A highly regarded law firm is seeking a mid-level Litigation Associate to join its expanding litigation practice in Washington, DC. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney looking to gain meaningful responsibility, direct client exposure, and hands-on experience handling sophisticated, high-stakes disputes.

The ideal candidate will have experience managing complex litigation matters through all stages of the case lifecycle, including legal research, drafting substantive motions and pleadings, handling written discovery, taking and defending depositions, and supporting trial preparation. Associates will work closely with experienced litigators on challenging matters while developing the skills necessary to become trusted advisors and advocates for clients.

The firm's litigation team represents clients in a broad range of complex business disputes and contentious matters. Associates are given significant responsibility from the outset and are encouraged to take an active role in case strategy, client counseling, and courtroom advocacy. Responsibilities

• Manage litigation matters through all phases of the case lifecycle
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other substantive legal filings
• Conduct legal research, factual investigations, and case analysis
• Handle all aspects of written discovery
• Take and defend depositions and prepare witnesses for testimony
• Participate in hearings, mediations, and trial preparation
• Collaborate closely with partners on case strategy and matter management
• Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and witnesses
• Assume increasing responsibility for client relationships and litigation strategy

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Must be admitted to and in good standing with the District of Columbia Bar
• 4-5 years of litigation experience, preferably in a law firm setting
• Outstanding academic credentials
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience handling all aspects of written discovery, drafting pleadings and motions, preparing witnesses, and taking and defending depositions
• Strong analytical, organizational, and case-management abilities
• Experience with oral advocacy and motion practice
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment
• Prior judicial clerkship or comparable litigation experience preferred
• Experience representing clients in complex commercial disputes is preferred
