Territory: North and West Texas, as well as Central and Western Oklahoma, with select assigned accounts and dealer branches outside the core territory
Travel: Regular field travel throughout the territory and to assigned dealer locations
The Opportunity
Rockmount is seeking an experienced Technical Sales Specialist to manage and grow an established customer base while developing larger end-user and distributor opportunities across the region.
For more than 50 years, Rockmount has built a strong reputation for providing high-performing welding consumables, industrial solutions, technical expertise, and outstanding customer service. Our products support customers across heavy construction, mining, manufacturing, municipal services, logistics, agriculture, food production, fabrication, repair, and other industries where equipment reliability matters.
This is a hands-on, field-based sales and dealer-development role for someone who understands welding, knows how to build lasting customer relationships, and enjoys identifying practical solutions to technical challenges. The successful candidate will inherit a well-established book of business while having significant opportunity to expand sales across Rockmount, Arctec Alloys, Workhorse, and Optrel products.
Sales Portfolio and Growth Opportunity
This role offers a strong foundation for success from day one. The successful candidate will inherit an established, consistent book of business, with performance targets tied predominantly to existing sales within the territory. The focus will be on protecting and expanding these relationships while developing additional growth through new customers, dealer partnerships, and larger-volume opportunities.
The portfolio will also include assigned dealer branches and several established accounts already generating meaningful sales. Initial growth priorities will include strengthening relationships with regional and national distribution partners, developing opportunities across their branch networks, and expanding the adoption of Rockmount, Arctec, Workhorse, and Optrel products throughout the region.
Select customers and dealer branches outside the core territory may also be assigned on an account-by-account basis.
What You’ll Do
- Protect, manage, and grow an established customer base across the territory.
- Develop new industrial, maintenance, fabrication, and repair customers.
- Identify and pursue larger industrial, end-user, and high-volume sales opportunities.
- Manage and support assigned dealer branches, building strong relationships with branch leaders and sales teams.
- Train dealer salespeople on Rockmount, Arctec, Workhorse, and Optrel products and join them on customer calls.
- Expand the adoption of Arctec Alloys, Workhorse, and Optrel products alongside Rockmount’s established offering.
- Conduct product demonstrations, support customer trials, and recommend practical solutions based on each customer’s application and operating environment.
- Provide responsive technical support by phone and in the field.
- Build and manage an effective territory plan, pipeline, call schedule, and follow-up process.
- Track sales activity, customer opportunities, dealer development, and progress toward revenue and gross-profit objectives.
- Periodically assist with the training and onboarding of new Rockmount sales employees.
- Travel regularly throughout North and West Texas and Central and Western Oklahoma, as well as to assigned dealer locations and customer accounts outside the core territory when required.
What We’re Looking For
- Hands-on welding knowledge and the ability to confidently discuss welding applications, consumables, performance, and troubleshooting with customers.
- Proven field-sales experience, ideally within welding, industrial supplies, manufacturing, fabrication, maintenance and repair, or a related technical environment.
- Demonstrated success managing and growing an existing book of business while developing new accounts.
- Strong customer-development skills and the ability to build long-term relationships with end users, dealer partners, branch teams, and decision-makers.
- Experience supporting distributors or dealer branches, including training salespeople and conducting joint customer calls, is strongly preferred.
- A proactive, entrepreneurial approach with the motivation to pursue new opportunities and exceed sales targets.
- Strong presentation, product-demonstration, negotiation, and closing skills.
- The ability to work independently, manage a broad geographic territory, and remain highly organized and accountable in the field.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly throughout the assigned territory.
- A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle available for business use.
- Eligibility to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.
- Ability to successfully complete a background check.
Physical Requirements
This field-based role requires the ability to walk and stand for extended periods; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals in accordance with applicable law.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary: $60,000
- Year-one target incentive: Approximately $60,000, for target annual cash compensation of approximately $120,000
- Earning potential: Incentive opportunity can increase beyond year one as territory sales grow, with additional upside available for performance above target
- Benefits: Rockmount health benefits and retirement program
- Mileage and travel: Company-paid mileage, fuel, and approved business travel expenses
- Incentive compensation will be based on total sales within the assigned territory, as well as sales from select accounts the Technical Sales Specialist periodically supports outside the territory. Support for these additional accounts is expected to represent less than 20% of the role.
