Controller - Hedge Fund

Established NYC multi-manager investment firm seeks a Controller to join their team.

This is a unique opportunity for a strong accounting and finance professional join a stable, established investment business while partnering closely with senior leadership to help build the next generation of their finance and operational infrastructure.

The Controller will oversee the firm's accounting and financial reporting function, including monthly close, investment and trading-related accounting, Portfolio Manager P&L and compensation allocations, partner accounting, and relationships with external service providers. The role will also play an important part in a planned leadership transition and will have the opportunity to help professionalize and scale the firm's finance and operational infrastructure.

• Oversee accounting and financial reporting across the firm's proprietary trading activities, investment entities, and related structures
• Own the monthly close process and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
• Oversee Portfolio Manager P&L, compensation allocations, payouts, deferrals, and holdbacks
• Manage accounting and reporting related to the firm's partners and investment entities
• Review work performed by third-party administrators, auditors, and other outsourced providers
• Strengthen accounting processes, controls, systems, and reporting infrastructure
• Support trading and investment accounting, including securities positions, P&L, cash, financing, and related balance sheet activity
• Partner with senior leadership, Portfolio Managers, investment professionals on accounting, operations and financial matters
• Oversee and provide guidance to junior accounting support responsible for AP/AR, data feeds, and other accounting and operational functions
• Identify opportunities to leverage technology, automate processes, and improve efficiency
• Support the firm's continued evolution toward a more institutional investment management structure and potential future hedge fund platform
• Take on increasing operational and strategic responsibility as the organization evolves

Qualifications

• CPA strongly preferred
• Strong accounting foundation; public accounting experience a plus
• Experience in proprietary trading, multi-manager investment management, hedge funds, broker-dealers, family offices, or other alternative investment environments
• Experience with Portfolio Manager P&L, compensation allocations, incentive compensation, or investment professional payout structures strongly preferred
• Experience reviewing fund administrator or outsourced accounting work
• Strong understanding of investment and trading-related accounting
• Strong technology and systems orientation
• Hands-on, entrepreneurial, and comfortable operating in a small organization
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage time-sensitive, high-priority processes
• Ability and desire to grow into a broader senior leadership role
